Frequently Asked Questions
We're here to help
If your query is not covered below, please just drop us an email on info@securityassist.org.
Does your help cost anything?
Yes. We operate a 'pay what you can afford' model.
Our rates are extremely low for clients who are in especially vulnerable positions, with few resources. For clients in this position, our consultants may be working for below minimum wage.
On the other hand, clients with more substantial resources will pay more, although still well below a full market rate for security services of this kind. Security threats affect everyone in our society, and our 'pay what you can afford' model is designed to let us help people no matter what their financial circumstances.
What countries do you operate in? Can you visit me in person?
We can currently help clients in the UK, EU, Australia, New Zealand and Canada. In most cases, we will endeavour to help as much as we can remotely, by telephone, video conference, email and through the use of remote support tools to log into your devices with your permission. This is to keep costs as low as feasible for you.
However, in the UK we can sometimes also provide in person assistance when this is the best way to help and when it can be done at an acceptable cost.
I think someone is tracking me through my devices or my online accounts. What should I do?
First, get access to a different device, such as the phone of a trusted friend or a computer at a local library. Use that different device to create a new email account. Use that new account to email us at info@securityassist.org. This minimises the chance of the email being read by whoever is monitoring you.
How is your service different to the charities or government services that offer help with security issues?
Essentially, SAFE can step in when you need more assistance than these charities and government hotlines can provide. We encourage you to make contact with these services before contacting us - our mission is to help people in need at affordable prices, and we want you to get as much help as you can free of charge before seeking our assistance. We can also work in partnership with representatives at your chosen charity to help ensure you have a 360 degree service.
I'm being threatened, stalked or harassed by someone I know, like an ex-partner. Can you help?
Yes. We can help you put both digital and physical measures in place to protect yourself. We can also gather evidence of the perpetrator's behaviour, and help you take that to a solicitor to launch civil legal action, or to the police.
Important: ex partners often monitor their victims through access to their devices or online accounts. If you suspect this may be possible, then you should get access to a different device, such as the phone of a trusted friend or a computer at a local library. Use that different device to create a new email account. Use that new account to email us at info@securityassist.org.
Someone is threatening me, but I'm not sure who it is. Can you help?
Yes. We can investigate who's behind the threats and gather evidence. Identifying the perpetrator can help in a number of ways.
First, it helps us shape security measures for you that specifically guard against the individual or group involved. Second, the evidence can be used in civil legal action against the perpetrators, if you decide to take that action. Third, we can help you take the evidence to the police. When police refuse to investigate crimes, it's usually just because they are overwhelmed and under-resourced, and need to prioritise offences that can be investigated quickly and efficiently. They will sometimes be able to take action if you (with our help) present them with well-documented evidence that helps them investigate with limited resources.
